What does finger joint mean?
A finger joint, also known as a comb joint, is a woodworking joint made by cutting a set of complementary, interlocking profiles in two pieces of wood, which are then glued. The cross-section of the joint resembles the interlocking of fingers between two hands, hence the name "finger joint". The sides of each profile increases the surface area for gluing, resulting in a strong bond, stronger than a butt joint. Finger joints are generally created by using identical profiles for both pieces.
They are made complementary by rotation or translation of the tool with respect to the workpiece. Typically, a finger router bit is used, but spindle molders can also be used. Manual cutting of finger joints is time-consuming and error prone hence rarely done except in craft pieces. A tapered or scarfed finger joint is the most common joint used to form long pieces of lumber from solid boards; the result is finger-jointed lumber. The finger joint can also be valuable when creating baseboards, molding or trim, and can be used in such things as floor boards, and door construction.
Sawn timber is extended using finger joints when there is a need for pieces of timber that are longer than normal or certain properties are required of the timber. By using finger joints, it is possible to produce, for example, pieces of sawn timber that are made completely of heartwood, completely knotless and very straight. Such special products are usually used in the furniture and window industries. Finger-jointed sawn timber is available with a sawn surface, dimensioned and planed. The maximum length varies between different manufacturers, but is usually 12 – 14 meters.

The most important aspect of using these panels is humidity assimilation. Considering that all the panels produced by our company complies with international standards, all the panels have %8 moisture level. For implementing these panels in more humid or drier areas, humidity assimilation has to be considered.
Finger joint panels need to be ventilated on both surfaces for 72 hours in the very city that they are going to be used. Afterwards, panels are ready for CNC use and cutting. All timbers in our factory are dried with Germany state of the art technology, reducing the moisture content to %8. Although wood inherently has stress and bending, drying it with modern technology removes these unwanted elements, making them more malleable and better suited for dye which is convenient for cabinet and table tops making.
